Both put you in front of people searching for what you sell. The difference is how fast, how much, and what happens when you stop.
You can be visible within a day. You choose the searches, you set the daily budget, and you pay when someone clicks. When the budget runs out, you disappear that same day. It is a tap, not an investment.
That makes ads a good fit when you need enquiries now, when you are testing whether there is demand for something new, or when your business is seasonal and you only need visibility for part of the year.
SEO means earning your position rather than paying for it. It usually takes months rather than weeks, and nobody can honestly guarantee a specific position. What you get in return is traffic that continues after you stop paying, and that does not cost more as it grows.
It is a better fit when you can wait, when your competitors are already ranking and you are not, and when the same searches will still matter to you in two years.
Start with the free thing. Get your Google Business Profile verified, complete and active — that is technically local SEO, it costs nothing but time, and for a business with a physical location it often produces more calls than either paid ads or website ranking.
After that, if you need enquiries this month, run ads. If you can wait, build the SEO. If you can afford both, ads pay the bills while the SEO matures.
Be careful with anyone who guarantees a number one ranking, quotes SEO results in weeks, or reports success in impressions and clicks rather than calls and enquiries. Those numbers can look excellent while your phone stays silent.
